How to Breastfeed in Style
Let's face it, if you've made the decision to breastfeed or pump, you know the experience isn't as natural as moms are made to believe. Breastfeeding takes practice, patience, and resources. There are many tools at your disposal, like lactation consultants, classes, and mom support groups. Like any new venture, it's so helpful to know you are not alone. If breastfeeding doesn't "click" or feel right from the start, nothing is wrong with you and it doesn't mean you need to give up on your goal to feed your baby. In addition to being a way to nourish your baby, breastfeeding is a lifestyle choice. To be successful, breastfeeding needs to fit into our day and our lives. We want to be able to nurse in public; we want to be able to nurse at home when guests or family are over. We want to be able to breastfeed in style, meaning we have clothes that support our intention.
As a new mom, I was baffled by the lack of clothes and education available for breastfeeding. I had no idea my regular wardrobe would not work for breastfeeding. Tops and dresses needed to have a way to access my breasts, without completely exposing myself or pulling my dress over my head. As I roamed through my closet, I realized I didn't have that many options that would work for nursing my baby the way I wanted to.
So I designed Mommapparel, stylish, functional clothes that work for breastfeeding and don't scream, "I'm a nursing top!"
In fact, these clothes are so chic and comfy, you'll never miss your old wardrobe while breastfeeding.
Here are some of the pieces I suggest to get your started:
- Zipper Nursing Tank: This tank is a one and done style. No cover needed! The zipper pulls down to open the shirt, and there is a privacy panel built in that lifts up. No exposed breast, and no fear about nursing or pumping in public. The soft ribbed fabric fits a changing body and keeps its shape so you can wear it while pregnant and long after baby.
- Portable Breastfeeding Poncho: This top is the ultimate breastfeeding cover and the only one of its kind. Wear it as a stylish shirt or bring it with you. The entire top folds into the front pocket and makes a convenient pouch that you can bring with to restaurants, the park, friends' houses, or anywhere your life leads you! The portable poncho is one size and opens on the sides to provide style as well as function while nursing.
The decision to breastfeed comes with many challenges. Getting dressed doesn't have to be one of them. You should feel like your stylish self and also be able to feed your baby in a way that doesn't interfere with your life or your fashion.
